Oh my god I can just scream in excitement. We are less than a month away and I just have to share my excitement for this.

I first watched the Hairspray movie when I was in high school. Honestly it was the first movie I saw where the main lead was a chubby high school girl and I knew I needed to watch it.  Immediately I fell in loved with the movie. I know every songs Tracy sang, even the one they cut out. I watch the movie over and over again just to sing along to it. You can say Hairspray is one of  my all time favorite movie.

I never got the chance to watch the live production simply because it was impossible for me to watch it live; even when it was touring. I was never going to be able to afford to buy a ticket to watch the musical let alone go to New York to watch it on Broadway. That’s why I am so happy that NBC is doing the live productions. Other than YouTube I will now be able to watch the show. This allow someone like me who never saw the musical live to actually get a chance to see it, even if it is just from my living room.

When I first saw the movie I felt like I could relate to Tracy so much. I’m sure a lot of people would say the same thing too but it is true. In a world where you are surrounded by people who are praise for their beauty and figures it’s hard to relate to anyone. Then when the movie came out I finally had someone I could relate to. I mean how often do you see a plus size heroin let alone an asian one at that. So I will take what I can get, A chubby girl who was not going to let anything stop her from doing what she wants. A girl who got the guy because of her personality and who she was.

It may be a long shot but I saw myself in her and from then on I became obsessed with Hairspray. I eventually saw the original movie and then, later on, a school production of the musical that was posted on YouTube. The live musical may be different from the musical movie but the message was still the same.

So when December 7 comes you will find me glue to my TV screen singing to every song from the show.
